Services to continue over Christmas and New Year at Westmead Rehabilitation

At Westmead Rehabilitation Hospital our rehabilitation and medical inpatient beds will remain open during Christmas and New Year period and we encourage patients that require rehabilitation to continue with their therapy throughout the festive session.

Westmead Rehabilitation Hospital, is a purpose-built, 65 bed rehabilitation facility, delivering a wide range of inpatient and day program services supported by advanced rehabilitation technology, hydrotherapy pool and multidisciplinary allied health services.

Rehabilitation services are required following acute hospital admission to restore physical function after medical illness or surgery. Westmead Rehabilitation Hospital’s allied health team proudly support patients to recover more quickly, and with less pain. Rehabilitation helps our patients to restore to pre-illness or accident function and mobility, improving coordination, endurance, flexibility, balance and strengthens muscles so you are less at risk of falls or accidents.

Andrew Shi, Allied Health Manager at Westmead Rehabilitation Hospital said; “It is important that patients prioritise their rehabilitation during the Christmas and New Year period, because patients who have suffered an illness or injury are at heightened risk of further injury, particularly falls, if they have not been properly rehabilitated.”

“Further to physical benefits, there are psychological benefits of rehabilitation including enhanced self-confidence and increased ability to deal psychologically with illness or injury. Rehabilitation also provides patients with greater independence – returning you to your pre-injury/illness state of mental wellbeing” said Andrew.

Westmead Rehabilitation Hospitals has contract arrangements with all major private health funds but also accepts DVA, work cover and also self-funded patients.

The team at Westmead Rehabilitation wishes all of our patients and the community a wonderful and safe Christmas and New Year period.
