One in (approximately) every 300 people, are diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and almost 20% are of working age. Appropriate exercise can maintain function and independence whilst helping to reduce burden of care.
Our Parkinson’s group is targeted at mid-stage disease where patients are still mostly independent. It is based on the principles of higher intensity, large amplitude movements which are shown to be beneficial. Our group classes are led by our Physiotherapists and involve speech pathology as required.
Guillain-Barre is a condition that can affect anyone and although the majority make a full recovery, there is still a significant number of patients who experience long term reduced function. Research shows that a high intensity exercise program, 12 months from the initial onset, can lead to clinically significant improvements in a patient’s function, which is what we focus on in our group.
Our Guillain-Barre group is a high intensity exercise group focused on strengthening, endurance and education.
